Who We Are

This organization started as a small group of area residents back in 1984. Those volunteers worked on improving conditions at the city-run dog pound located at the sewage treatment plant in Waupaca. Since then, we have gone through many exciting changes!

Over the years, the group has grown and our involvement has broadened. We became active in humane education and promoted surgical sterilization (spaying and neutering), even though we did not operate an animal shelter.

During the middle to late 90's, we started sheltering and finding adoptive homes for cats. They were housed at a local grooming salon, in board member's homes, and in other foster homes. Approximately 200 cats were spayed and neutered, and found new homes this way.

In December of 1999, we were finally able to open an adoption center in a building, thanks to the generosity of Robert and Christine Faulks. While operating there,we found homes for more than 2000 additional cats and kittens. We also branched out to a satellite adoption location at the Grand Chute PetSmart Luv A Pet Adoption Center.

FINALLY, in early April, 2006, we moved into the new Adoption Center located on Commercial Drive behind the Waupaca Airport. The building was almost finished and we started taking in and adopting out cats immediately.

During the month of September, 2006, we finally had kennels ready to go and we started housing dogs. Our first one, a puppy, found a loving home quickly!

We now have enough permanent housing for cats, and have 2 rooms full of kennels installed for the dogs. We also have a partially-outfitted puppy room up and running.

By the end of 2008, we hope to have a fully-functional surgical area, for veterinarians to come perform spays and neuters on our pets in house.

Please help us keep up the momentum! We have grown so much over the past couple years and we'd like to keep it up. Only with your help can we continue to serve the needs of the many homeless animals in the Waupaca County area.
